Style Stories: Sharon Hoey

Bridal designer and industry doyenne Sharon Hoey divulges her top tip for a laid-back wedding day and discusses the piece of jewellery that means the most to her.

There are some things I cannot leave the house without...

For me it’s earrings. I don’t feel dressed without earrings; I actually wore a really bold oversized pair on my own wedding day - they were mother of pearl with cherub detailing and five inches long!

I've thirty years experience dressing brides and I've learned that sometimes you can't mess with the classics...

If I had to describe the Sharon Hoey aesthetic in three words, they would be clean, classic and chic. These qualities are perfectly captured in our Meadow Sweet dress;  the off the shoulder neckline pairs perfectly with Natasha's dramatic Deco rock crystal and diamond chandelier earrings.

Veils: on or off for the reception?

I say take it off! One of its purposes is to create this beautiful, ethereal moment for your ceremony; taking it off changes the tone and marks the beginning of a great party!

Weddings can be stressful. Any solutions?

Delegation – and a blank cheque!

We hear you're an excellent cook...

My ultimate comfort food is prawn linguine. My secret is to always use fresh (never frozen!) prawns and loads of chilli. When I go out for dinner I love food with Italian influence; my current favourites are the Camden Kitchen in Dublin, and when in London, Sale & Pep in Knightsbridge.

Rituals are an important part of  life...

I start each day answering emails in bed with a cup of Earl Grey tea. My days are busy but although success is important, switching off is also imperative... at the end of the day for me, that involves two things: a glass of wine - and drinking that wine while I’m either painting or cooking.

A piece of jewellery that marks life's finer moments...

The jewellery piece I own that means the most to me are my three silver bangles. They are intertwined with three rondelles and each bangle has three diamonds; they represent my three sons.
