The Carolyn Bessette Effect
Like so many, I tuned in to watch Ryan Murphy's Love Story on Disney+, cynical at first but quickly drawn in by the characters, the story - and of course New York, playing a blinder as a third main character in all it's 90s glory (in case you've been living under a rock, it's a fictionalised account of the relationship between JFK Jnr. and Carolyn Bessette, with a good dose of Jackie O thrown in for good measure).

What surprised me most really, was the weight given to nearly the very first shot - the reimagining of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's ring stack. Famously, she never really wore a 'traditional' engagement ring - just a simple sparkling diamond and sapphire eternity ring, pictured above, sometimes against a plain gold wedding band. This stack, the perfect embodiment of the minimalist style she was most famous for, feels as fresh today as it must have looked back then. It made me think how much I'm yearning for people to ditch the garish rocks and instead embrace a simpler approach that works whatever the mood.

It could be a simple diamond/gold combination - or the addition of come colour brought via emeralds, diamonds or sapphires (like CBK). Another way to do it is to lean in to a heavier gold band- think minimum 3mm wide - as a juxtaposition for something dainty and sparkly beside it. It's definitely the way I'm wearing my own rings right now. Find your inspiration here, or pop into our office for a try on and to start building your stack today! NS x
