Style Stories: Laura Cosgrove
Always enviably dressed, style influencer and personal shopper Laura Cosgrove has a wardrobe filled with classic staples that hinge upon everyday luxury (unsurprisingly, we’re a fan!). She shares her tips for embracing the new season while staying true to your personal style.
I’ve always been clothes obsessed: my earliest style memory is trying on clothes and hiding under rails in my mum’s favourite boutique while she shopped with her friends.
I’m a long-term fan of French style: my style influences include French fashion pin-ups Emmanuelle Alt and Caroline de Maigret. They nail that laidback, cool look that I love. I also take lots of inspiration from Instagram. I love Pernille Teisbæk, Lisa Grenn, Felicia Akerstrom, Anouk Yve, Lovisa Barkman and Lu Hough for cool, effortless, everyday looks.
I feel most like myself when I’m wearing jeans and knitwear or a blazer in neutral colours: I invest in my wardrobe and only purchase pieces that I will wear season after season. I buy things that will transcend trends, that are practical for my lifestyle and enable me to feel my best. I have a very edited wardrobe now and I put so much thought into every new purchase. It really helps to ask yourself, ‘How often will I wear this, how many different ways can I style it, can I mix and match it with multiple things in my existing wardrobe and will I wear it for years to come?’
My go-tos for shopping are a mix of high and low: Arket and COS are two of my favourite brands from the high street. Equally, I love Totême, Anine Bing and Loulou de Saison. Chloé Harrouche, the founder of Loulou de Saison has such effortless style. My aspirational brands include Khaite and The Row.
Loafers are a real do-it-all item for spring; they solve most dressing problems: I pair them with jeans for an easy look (I can no longer walk in heels!). I splurged on a pair of Chanel loafers for my birthday last year; I must have worn them over 200 times since. They are so comfortable and still in impeccable condition. I count that as great fashion maths!
When it comes to jewellery, it’s about quality, never quantity: over the years I have built up a small collection of solid gold and diamond pieces that I wear daily and my watch is a vintage Rolex gold Lady-Datejust. For earrings, I never leave the house without simple gold hoops or diamond studs with smaller diamond huggies. I also have a couple of statement earrings for when I need that extra bit of glamour on a special occasion.
My mum gifted me a gold bangle for my wedding day: I wear this special piece every day. She has a fabulous jewellery collection which she started when she was in her early thirties. When I was younger, she used to encourage me to invest in gold pieces rather than spending all my savings on fast fashion. I really wish that I had listened to her!
SS25 In A Nutshell, According To Laura:
The piece I’m saving up for: a trench coat from The Landskein.
My SS25 fantasy purchase: a Birkin 25 (!) by Hermès.
The jewellery item I'm lusting after: a tennis bracelet.
The one trend I wish would go away: wide-leg jeans. I’m happy to see the return of slimmer, straight-leg styles. They are so easy to style with oversized blazers and knitwear, and they feel more polished. Look to: the 90s Pinch-Waist jeans by Agolde and the Blaine jeans by Citizens of Humanity.
