Style Stories: Sisterly
Jennifer O’Connell, Aoife Matthews and Louise O’Riordan are the founders of Sisterly, a premium female-focused supplements brand that, since launching last year, has seen its hero product The Elevator gain a cult following. Based between Dublin, Madrid and Los Angeles, the trio has a varied but complementary sense of style informed by their backgrounds as a barrister, investment banker and luxury brand developer respectively. Here, we find out what’s on their lust-list for autumn and hear about their favourite jewellery pieces …
Fashion is so often about capturing (or recapturing!) a moment
Louise: Getting a pair of red ballet shoes started my love affair with shoes. Going to the ballet as a child was the first time I was exposed to choreography, fashion and costumes being presented in such a dramatic way. It was clear that the costumes were as powerful as the dancing when it came to transporting the audience. I recently went to a fashion show in LA for Cynthia Rowley where she had 10 ballerinas, en pointe, coming down the runway in sync which still held some magic for me.
Autumn is a great time to recalibrate your style post-summer.
Aoife: I love autumnal colours, particularly chocolate browns and taupes which are big this season. I’m currently lusting after Cate Blanchett and Daisy Edgar Jones’ wardrobes. I also get lots of style inspiration and tips from @tastemaker.ie.
Vitamin sea and great chats are fantastic for your immune system.
Jenny: Doing regular exercise is key to protecting your immune system. It helps reduce stress, gives you a boost of endorphins and sets you up for the day. We love our Sisterly sea swims at the Forty Foot with Cocobrew Coffee.
The one wellness tip that actually works is quite simple.
Louise: ‘If you fail to plan you plan to fail’: I find if I schedule my week ahead on a Sunday in terms of exercise, self-care and other things on my dopamine menu, then these will not get pushed aside so easily once you are hit with something unexpected.
There are also some wellness myths worth busting.
Aoife: There is a huge hype around intermittent fasting but it does not necessarily suit everyone, particularly women. Women are more sensitive to energy restriction; incorporating exercise on top of that can lead to dysregulation of hormones.
